Agriculture Commissioner Cindy Hyde-Smith is pushing for the Legislature to help fund the biggest renovation project that the coliseum has ever seen.
It’s unclear at this point whether funding could be secured through a multi-million dollar bond bill or some other means.
But if it happens, the renovation would help boost the ideally located arena’s ability to play a larger role as a major revenue generator for both the city of Jackson and the state.
“We just want to capitalize on the potential revenue that is obviously there,” Hyde-Smith said.

Heard the Commissioner speak a few months ago about the challenges and opportunities of her new post. Glad she is taking them head on!
