PLUNKETT: Rep. Steve Holland, Beastiality and North MS Politics–you can’t make this stuff up.

Anyone who walks the halls of the state capitol when the legislature is in session for any length of time can expect at some point to hear the loud boisterous showmanship of Lee County Democrat Rep. Steve Holland.

Holland loves an audience, and when the legislature is in session he finds one, whether it be on the floor of the House, or in the nooks and crannies of the capitol hallways. One can’t help but smile, if not laugh out loud, at what he sometimes has to say, and certainly HOW he decides to say it.

Let’s just say the man is poetically vociferous.

He let’s loose as only Holland can in a recent GQ article about the crazy politics of Northeast Mississippi and how it all fits in with the drama of a man suspected of attempting to poison the President with a ricin-laced letter.

“I had never stood eyeball to eyeball or dick to dick with the man, but for some reason he just hated the hell out of me,” says Holland, a gloriously profane and paradoxically genteel man of 58. “He called me everything from gay to communist. Everything but a child of God. I mean, he had no campaign or agenda except to cut my nuts out…. But you got to get your ass up early and go to bed late to beat my ass. I’ve held this seat for thirty years. I can absolutely make love to a bull moose on the steps of the Lee County courthouse and garner more than 5 percent of the vote.”

Like his politics or not, Holland is nothing if not entertaining.

  1. There is nothing entertaining about joking about bestiality.
Such depravity only serves to cheapen and corrupt our people, while perpetuating the idea that Mississippians are backwards, backwoods bumpkins.

  2. Jules

Does the bull moose have a say in the relationship? Ouch!
