Two attorneys representing plaintiffs in lawsuits against Singing River Health System delivered a “cease and desist” letter to the hospital Friday after they learned of allegations from employees that SRHS’s financial department was shredding documents.
Attorneys Harvey Barton and Earl Denham drafted the letter, stating they learned “that an operation has commenced in more than one location” where the hospital is shredding or disposing of official documents that “may be material to our litigation.”
“Earl’s paralegal got a call from an employee saying there was an effort under way by some in the administration to destroy some documents in financial services,” Barton said. “We started to make some calls to figure out what the hell was going on.”
Barton said he spoke with an employee who had been working in the financial services department for more than 30 years, and that employee told him he had never before seen such activity until today.
