State Rep. David Baria, D-Bay St. Louis, has proposed two bills designed to increase education funding. However, he said Tuesday he isn’t confident either will get out of committee.

One, requiring Mississippi to fully fund education under an existing state formula — one that has been fully followed only twice since its inception in 1997 — is officially still in committee but Baria said he understands it won’t reach the House floor.

The other is an appropriations bill he requested Tuesday that will also fully fund education next year.
