The United Conservatives Fund, a state political action committee launched in late January, gathered 676 signatures to a petition asking Governor Phil Bryant to veto controversial legislation. The legislation, Senate Bill 2161, was claimed by Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves to “end Common Core”.
Supporters of the veto say the bill is “political cover” and a trick for politicians in Jackson during an election year, and if signed could lock Common Core in place in Mississippi.
The petition was started on Thursday evening and is being supported by several conservative and anti-Common Core groups from across the state.
