Geoffrey Yoste of Oxford confirmed Friday that he is withdrawing from the race for Northern District transportation commissioner.

Yoste was one of three candidates challenging incumbent Northern District Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert in the August Republican primary.

Yoste, who has worked on the staffs of former Gov. Kirk Foridce and former U.S. Sen. Trent Lott, said he was supporting Tagert in his re-election effort.

“I am an 100 percent behind Mike Tagert,” said Yoste, who owns a consulting business that focuses primarily on military issues.

Yoste got in the race with the expectation that Tagert could win the special congressional election in District 1. Tagert was considered one of the favorites, because as transportation commissioner he serves in all 22 counties in the 1st congressional district.
