The shooting of 9 African Americans in a church in Charleston, South Carolina by a mentally unstable young man who posed with photos of the Confederate Battle flag has some politicians, pastors and race-baiters alike calling for the removal of the emblem from state houses.
Mississippi is the only state in the country who still includes the emblem in its official state flag. Voters overwhelmingly supported re-adopting the flag by a margin of 2 to 1 in 2001.
