Here’s an idea. If the Initiative 42 crowd wants Gunn’s and Reeves’ emails in the hopes of mining them for a “gotcha” nugget or two, how about some transparency on their end, as well? Let the people know whether they’ve been lobbying school administrators to encourage their employees to support Initiative 42. Those school-hosted email accounts are, most definitely, public record.
There’s no doubt the pro-initiative group has done some lobbying; the Mississippi Department of Education — after pressure from lawmakers and auditor Stacey Pickering — has told several school districts have to remove pro-Initiative 42 language from their individual websites.
Transparency should go both ways.
