William Bennett, former U.S. secretary of education, is scheduled to speak an education symposium on Oct. 29 in Tupelo.

The event will be held at the BancorpSouth Center. It is sponsored by Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves and the Mississippi Department of Education.

The MDE says the symposium will provide materials to help teachers enact the Common Core educational standards that are set to be used by Mississippi and most other states, starting with the 2014-15 school year.

  1. This is the takeover of public Education, EXACTLY the opposite of the original intent of this country’s Founding. It also is teaching AGAINST the ability of PARENTS to participate in helping their children because the methods are nothing like parents learned. This is a money making effort for favored and maneuvered for those friends of this Marxist government.
The “helpers” program for homework help is ONLINE with middle-eastern and Chinese individuals speaking to our children! Are those the people you want helping your kids?

  2. Very disappointing that Lt. Gov. Reeves is obviously in support of this government infiltration into our schools. I have done my own research, and I have seen enough of this ‘so-called’ advancement in education. I am very curious as to why such a powerful Mississippi politician would cave in to this obvious deception and liberal-ideology-pushing, level-the-playing-field, parents-not-welcome, no questions allowed, data mining, violation of tax-payers rights, creating thoughtful little robots, but obedient little robots who will never have the wherewithal to provoke any action, and therefore, will never miss the once, freedom-loving, sky is the limit, capitalistic society, that they were never able to experience.

Mr. Reeves, if you are trying to work your way up any political ladder, I sure hope you don’t intend to stand on the backs of your constituency and our children in order to get there. I am not sure whose pocketbook you are after, but you better re-think this, and remember that you are an elected official!!!!!

    1. Politics, plain and simple. In addition, Reeves and most other officials are completely ignorant of the issue. Unfortunately. not many of them are going on ‘listening tours’. Common Core will be the make-it-or-break-it issue for me in the next election.
